Originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Gina Vélez Martínez is a historian, educator, producer, and screenwriter with a diverse background in film, television, and advertising. Her work was awarded a Suncoast Emmy in 2015 for the screenplay of the series Incógnita. When she is not participating in a writing workshop, leading projects, or writing scripts, such as her feature films Prótesis (2019) and El arte de venderle hielo a un esquimal (2025, in post-production), she is navigating motherhood with love and dark circles under her eyes. Her next project in development is Terapia de duelo (y otras drogas), a dark comedy-drama.

Terapia de duelo (y otras drogas) — Two sisters in their 60s who are complete opposites must reunite after years of estrangement in order to inherit their father’s pharmacy and finally achieve the freedom they so desperately crave. Amid prescriptions and traumas, they discover that this legacy actually carries debts and a secret deal with a hypochondriac drug lord that will force them to choose between their conscience and their survival.
