Illimani de los Andes is an anthropologist, artist and curator. She is a doctoral candidate in the Cultural Studies: Memory, Identity, Territory and Language program at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and the University of Rennes II, France, where she is developing her thesis on “Mythology and pre-Hispanic and contemporary art of the past and present of the Mesoamerican region”. She received the Ernesto Fernández Holmann scholarship to pursue a Master in Curatorial Studies at the University of Navarra, Spain. Illimani has been a curator of several projects in venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Costa Rica, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Spain, the Jade Museum in Costa Rica, the Museo of Costa Rican Art, and Casa América in Spain. She received an honorable mention as curator of the project “From pre-Hispanic art to contemporary art”, coordinated by Guillermina Ortega (William Bullock Award 2020 USC Fisher Museum of Art + Patronato MUAC). She was awarded the Excellence Scholarship by the Mexican Agency for International Cooperation to train at the Foro Iberoamericano de Estudios Cinematográficos and the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico. Illimani is a specialist in film screenwriting from La Factoría de Guion in Madrid, holds a diploma in Audiovisual Production and a diploma in Cultural Mediation, and specializes in Contemporary Art.
