Joacenith Vargas (Colombia)

Joacenith Vargas is a Colombian director and screenwriter. She is a graduate of the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba (EICTV), specializing in Fiction Directing, and was awarded the Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC) grant for script rewriting for her project Aléjate, a story about sexual harassment. She directed Pan dulce (a segment that is part of the feature film Vernos juntos, currently in post-production) and the short films Ayer por la tarde, 11 y 8, El Quilla and Estela. The latter was selected at festivals such as ShortFest in Palm Springs, Kinoforum in Brazil and Poitiers in France, and won the awards for Best Short Film, Best Direction and Best Art Direction at the Imago Festival in Cuba, the award for Best Scene at the Porto Alegre Screenplay Festival (FRAPA) in Brazil and the award for Best Cinematography at the Pune International Film Festival in India. With more than 15 years of experience as First Assistant Director, Joacenith has worked on feature films in Venezuela, Colombia and India, and on television series for streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Movistar Play. She currently lives between Bogotá, Colombia, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
