Mario Lucero Beauregard is a film and television writer and director who began his career at a local television station in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, painting sets and editing promos in 3/4 format. Since then, he has worked in Mexico, the United States, Europe and South America as a director of documentary short films. In early 2020, just before the lockdown, he finished filming his first fiction feature, Los pacientes recurrentes, a road movie about a group of addicts in rehab who have to fulfill the dream of an indigenous girl with terminal cancer: to return her to her home in Chiapas. Mario directed a series for Disney+ now in post-production and is finishing the documentary Mi abuelo, La Muerte, about actor Enrique Lucero, known as “La Muerte” in the movie Macario or “El Cura” from the movie Canoa. At the same time, Mario is developing his next feature film, Nil, a story about the search for identity.
Nil — When his mother’s illness forces him to abandon his quest for fame in Los Angeles as Neil Diamond’s best impersonator, Nil returns to his hometown in Mexico after 20 years to face his fears and discover his true destiny.
