Mires Ibars was born in Lleida, a city where the fog could last for weeks, making it impossible to see beyond two meters, which is why she used to go to the movies, out of a need to “see”. She studied at the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC) and worked in Paris as a post-production coordinator and supervisor on projects by Manoel de Oliveira, Érik Zonca and Abdellatif Kechiche and, back in Spain, with Miguel Bardem and Eddie Saeta, among others. At the same time, she directed the documentary Una cuchara en el bolsillo (A Spoon in Your Pocket), about mass graves and her grandfather’s exile in France. The film screened at more than 30 film festivals, including the Cádiz Documentary Film Festival—Alcances, the Alcalá de Henares Film Festival—Alcine, and the London International Documentary Film Festival. It won the CMCA Award at the Marseille International Documentary Festival and was used to explain the Spanish Civil War in French high schools. Mires also participated with Triar in the collective feature film Ferida arrel: Maria-Mercè Marçal. Protuberantia, co-written with Pau Vidal Bosch, is her first feature film and explores the new desires revolutionized by feminism.
Protuberantia [co-written with Pau Vidal Bosch] — Perla is a single mother. One night she starts to caress herself and reaches such a spectacular orgasm that she feels as if her clitoris has exploded. Indeed, a protuberance appears at the corner of her labia.
