Mar Novo (Mexico)

Mar Novo is a Mexican film and television screenwriter and director, member of the LGBTQ+ community. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy. In 2021 she directed her first feature film, Las Tres Sisters, which premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in 2023 and was an official selection at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) in 2024. The film was released theatrically in the United States in 2025. In television, Mar was part of the writers’ room for the Amazon Prime Video original series Mentiras: el musical, an adaptation of the hit musical by José Manuel López Velarde, under the direction of showrunner Gabriel Ripstein. In 2024 she directed La mosca en la pared, a short film written by and starring Rossana de León which is currently touring national and international festivals. Mar recently finished shooting her second feature film, 8 maneras de morir, starring Daniela Salinas and Nora Velázquez. The film is currently in post-production.

Mar was a participant in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2023 Storylines Lab with White Island.
