Sara Pinheiro (Brazil)

Sara Pinheiro works across film, theater, and literature. In Belo Horizonte, she participated in several theater plays as a playwright, actress, and director. She organized the “Janela de Dramaturgia” showcase. She won the Literature Prize (Young Writer category) from the Government of Minas Gerais in 2017, and her work has been published by the publishing houses Perspectiva, Javali, and Chão da Feira. She first came into contact with the audiovisual world through the dramaturgical process of Cine Splendid (Iberescena/Festival Mirada 2018), a work that explores the connections between the theater and filmmaking languages. In film, she was the director of the short film Conto Anônimo (Humberto Mauro Award 2024); a script assistant for the feature film Somente nós, by Lu Menezes/Roteiraria (in development); a screenwriter for the feature film Canção ao longe, by Clarissa Campolina (official selection at the 2022 Marrakech Film Festival and the Rio Festival and winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Cinalfama Lisbon film festival); and a screenwriter for Remanso, by Pablo Lamar (Hubert Bals Fund, BrLab, Cinemart (in pre-production)). She is currently developing Enseada (Jury Mention at Brasil Cine Mundi 2024).

Sara was a participant in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2025 Taller de Líneas Argumentales lab with Enseada.

EnseadaWhen a mother returns to the city of her youth to be with her mom in her final moments, she relives who she was before motherhood and revisits her choices. Enseada explores the conflicted relationship between motherhood, identity, and personal freedom.
