Daniel Ruiz Sierra is a Colombian producer, short film director, and screenwriter. His projects explore family conflicts, identity reaffirmation, and male relationships. He has experience in film journalism, promotion and film festivals, as well as in production and post-production for film and television. He is the director, screenwriter, and producer of the short film in development Mi nombre es Delirio, wich was selected for events such as the Peruvian Short Film Festival, PERULAB (2023), and the OutFest Peru LGBT+ Film Project Lab (2023), and was a semifinalist in the VII ABCGuionistas International Short Film Script Competition. He is also the screenwriter, director, and producer of the short film El ojo mágico, a project that won the “Historias del cambio” competition organized by the Colombian Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and was selected for the official competition at the Outfest Peru LGBT+ International Film Festival (2024) and the Peruvian Short Film Festival (2024). Daniel is the screenwriter and producer of the feature film project A veces escupo por placer sobre el retrato de mi madre, a finalist in LATINX 2020—Latin American Feature Film Script Competition of the Latin American Training Center (Brazil) and selected for the Ópera de Leyva Script Lab and Pitch at the Villa de Leyva Film Festival. His short films include Algo por contar, papá; Monologuito de mujer; El diablo tiene cara de ninfa; and La piel femenina.
Daniel was a participante in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2022 Taller de Líneas Argumentales lab with A veces escupo por placer sobre el retrato de mi madre.
A veces escupo por placer sobre el retrato de mi madre — A gay man returns to his family home to reconcile with his mother. The environment remains homophobic and repressive; the only difference is that a secret is now being kept that will only exacerbate the rift between mother and son.
