María del Mar Rosario (Puerto Rico)

María del Mar Rosario is a filmmaker from Puerto Rico. In her work, which traverses documentary and fiction film, she explores themes at the intersection of gender and colonialism. A graduate of Columbia University in New York, where she double majored in creative writing and film studies, María del Mar completed her graduate studies at the International School of Film and Television in Cuba, where she specialized in directing. Her short films have been screened at IDFA—International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, Hot Docs, Palms Springs, Metrograph NYC and the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, among others. María del Mar is currently developing her debut feature, Punta Salinas, a project that was part of the Independent Studies Program of the Museum of Contemporary Art of San Juan in 2021, an interdisciplinary program that featured eight emerging Puerto Rican artists. She is also developing the episodic series Nymphs, which was awarded a development mentorship by Dissident House in 2021. She currently resides between New York City and her native Puerto Rico.
