José de Jesús Gutiérrez García studied at the Film School (CUEC) of Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM). His debut feature film, Te prometo nunca regresar (2016), was screened at CPH:DOX*—Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, DOKU:FEST Kosovo, Transcinema—International Film Festival in Lima, the La Plata Film Festival in Argentina and the Havana Film Festival, among others. It was also awarded the prize for best debut feature film at DocsMX—International Documentary Film Festival in Mexico City. His second film, Esta película la hice pensando en ti (2018), was screened at the UNAM International Film Festival, Black Canvas, Valdivia International Film Festival in Chile, Transcinema and the Márgenes Festival in Madrid, among others. José de Jesús was a participant in the 2021 Guadalajara Talents and is the recipient of the 2021 Cine Qua Non Lab—Guadalajara Talents prize, awarded by Cine Qua Non Lab in collaboration with the Guadalajara International Film Festival, for his project Ruidos, voces, rumores… canciones lejanas.
Ruidos, voces, rumores… canciones lejanas — Mexico, 1913. In the midst of the Mexican Revolution, two brothers travel through the desert trying to escape the war. After being chased by the federal army, they lose their way and start wandering through the desert. On their pilgrimage they face various experiences that confront them with their deepest fears, until by chance they find a cave. That place will change their lives.
