Alejandro Rojas (Venezuela/Spain)

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Alejandro Rojas is the co-director and co-writer of the feature film Upon Entry, starring Alberto Ammann, Bruna Cusí, Ben Temple and Laura Gómez. The film premiered in 2022 at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. It has been featured at SXSW, San Sebastián, Shanghai, Thessaloniki, and Transylvania, earning 28 international awards at film festivals such as Raindance, Kolkata, Tetouan, Málaga, Buenos Aires and Premiers Plans. Upon Entry received multiple nominations at the Goya Awards, the Gaudí Awards, the Forqué Awards, the Feroz Awards and the Cinema Writers Circle Awards in Spain. It won the Best Screenplay award at both the Gaudí and Feroz Awards. The film boasts three nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards, making it the first Spanish film to receive nominations for Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay, and Best Editing. Before shooting Upon Entry, Alejandro wrote and edited feature-length documentaries about cinema for television (Wise Words, Actor/Director: About Expectations). As a film journalist, he covered international film festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Sundance, and Berlin, interviewing both acclaimed and emerging artists. Alejandro has worked for HBO Latin America Group, 100 Bares Producciones (Argentina), Telenet (Belgium), The Special Treats Productions (United Kingdom), and Netflix (United States).

Queens Nasreen lives with her 8-year-old son Akram in Brussels on a temporary visa. She receives a denial for her asylum application. Léa works at the immigration office and has found out she is pregnant. Both will eventually meet in a specific moment in time, and decisions in their own lives will arise.
