Angeli Macfarlane is a writer, producer and story editor. Throughout her career she has acted as executive producer, script editor and mentor for many key organizations, including the British Film Institute (BFI), Film London, BBC Film, Film4, Screen Ireland, Vic Screen Australia, Berlinale Talents, Series Mania, the British Council and the National Film Development Corporation in India. As development producer, Angeli recently completed six first features financed by Film London, BBC Film and the BFI. She mentored and commissioned many first films by talent that has gone onto wide industry acclaim. Angeli established and ran first feature divisions at Pathé and Film4.
In 2017 Angeli set up her own production company, Script Cube. While her ambition has always been to both mentor and develop projects, under the banner of Script Cube she has also begun working on projects by more established talent. Angeli is producing the adaptation of Gunnar’s Daughter, by renowned Norwegian author Sigrid Undset. The script is written by highly acclaimed writer and director Rebecca Lenkiewicz (She Said, Ida, Hot Milk) with the support of BFI funding. Angeli has brought on board the award-winning production team at Barry Crerar and executive producer Lee Magiday (The Favourite) from Sleeper Films. Angeli also has two TV series in development: the Trinidad-set adaptation of Costa award-winning novelist Monique Roffey’s book The White Woman on the Green Bicycle, and Watching Birds, a 10-part modern love story set in the world of middle-age online dating and ornithology.
As screenwriter, Angeli co-wrote Lola, directed by Andrew Legge, which premiered at Locarno Film Festival in 2022 and was released by Bankside in 2023. It was awarded the Georges Méliès Golden Medal in 2023 and was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Irish Film and TV Awards in 2024. She wrote Momo with Christian Ditter (Love Rosie, How to Be Single, Biohackers), which is currently in post-production. Angeli is co-writing Sisters for Sleeper Films and Cineman, and adapting best-selling novel Small Pleasures (written by Clare Chambers) for Shy Punk.
Angeli is a senior screenwriting tutor at the prestigious National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom. She runs regular online training sessions on screenwriting and good development practice.
