Emiliano Mazza De Luca (Uruguay)

Emiliano Mazza De Luca is a Uruguayan filmmaker, originally from Montevideo and currently based in Mexico City. He is the director and producer of the feature-length documentaries Vida a bordo (2018) and Nueva Venecia (2016), as well as Multitudes (2014) in co-direction with Mónica Talamás. Emiliano is currently developing his fiction feature debut, Las despenadoras, and the documentary essay Pax in lucem, about the life of artist Joaquín Torres-García.
Las despenadoras — Leontina’s innocence fades away as her grandmother, a folk healer, strives to pass on to her all her ancestral knowledge. Her transformation concludes in a ritual of “belongingness” as she helps her kin cross the threshold of death.
