Fabián Hernández (Colombia)

Fabián Hernández was born and raised in the neighborhoods of Mártires and Santa Fe, in downtown Bogotá. In 2015 he founded Níquel Films, his production company. He has been a film teacher in district public schools. His first feature film, Un varón (A Male), premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. It was also selected to participate in L’Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020 and in the Horizontes Latinos section of the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2022. Un varón was Colombia’s submission for the 2024 Oscars. Fabián’s perspective on gender studies, identity and dissidence has led him to give numerous talks at universities on topics such as new masculinities, sexual divergences and cinema. He is currently developing his second feature film, Los pájaros.

Los pájaros Private Freddy discovers his fascination for Zúñiga. They are separated in the heat of battle, and Freddy flees the war. When he is recaptured by the troops and feels the threat of death, Freddy trusts his instincts and looks for a space for his individuality.
