Ifeyinwa Arinze (Nigeria)

Ifeyinwa Arinze is a neuroscientist-turned-filmmaker from Nigeria and is currently based in New York City. Her work centers intimate portrayals of Black women and girls that are grounded in tenderness and care. She has received support through awards and grants from BAFTA, the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) and Video Consortium. Her short films have screened at the New York African Film Festival, Aspen Shortsfest, Palm Springs, BlackStar, Urbanworld, Indie Memphis and TIDE Film Festival. She recently participated in the 2023 Film at Lincoln Center Artists Academy and UnionDocs’s 2023 Research and Development Documentary Lab. Ifeyinwa is developing her debut feature film, Scruples, which was a 2023 SFFILM Rainin Grant finalist. She is also in post-production on her next short film with support from NYU’s Black Family Thesis Prize. Ifeyinwa holds an M.F.A. in Film from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Scruples Set against the volatile backdrop of a Nigerian all-girls boarding school, a troubled 12-year-old girl seeks refuge under the wing of the school’s beguiling senior prefect and embraces darker parts of herself until she is faced with an unexpected cost.
