Maider Oleaga (Spain)

Maider Oleaga is a Basque director and screenwriter known for her creative versatility and personal approach. Her films, spanning both documentary and fiction, are characterized by an intimate, reflective and intuitive exploration of themes such as identity, collective memory, migration processes and the awakening of desire. Among her most notable documentaries are Muga deitzen da Pausoa (2018), selected for the Ikusmira Berriak artistic residency; Verabredung (2017), winner at the DOC.España section of the Valladolid International Film Festival (SEMINCI); and Kuarkt Valley (2021), winner of the Best Basque Screenplay Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Maider has also directed short fiction films such as Sitios prestados al aire (2010), winner of the Short Film Competition of the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE); Kinka (2021), awarded at ZINEBI—Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival; and Irrits (2022), selected for Kimuak, the Basque short film catalog. Maider is currently developing her next feature films and, at the same time, working as a teacher and project mentor at the Elías Querejeta Film School, Noka Mentoring, COOFILM or Emergente, among others.
