Marco Vélez Esquivia (Colombia)

Marco Vélez Esquivia has established himself as one of Colombia’s most prolific filmmakers, having directed six critically acclaimed feature films between 2019 and 2024. His distinctive visual style and narrative approach have earned him 13 nominations for the Colombian Film Academy awards in multiple categories. His films have achieved wide distribution in theaters across Latin America and Europe. Marco holds a degree in industrial engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia and an M.F.A. in Film from the École Internationale de Création Audiovisuelle et de Réalisation (EICAR) in Paris, which he completed thanks to scholarships from the Colombian Film Development Fund, the Foundation for the Future of Colombia (COLFUTURO) and the French Embassy. His filmography includes Sábado oscuro (2024), Tiempo presente (2023), Ultraviolencia (2023), Sicosexual (2022), Ruido (2021) and Afuera del tiempo (2019). His works span a variety of genres, from science fiction to crime dramas, always maintaining his distinctive artistic vision.
