La diva won a writing grant in 2016 from the Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC). Mauricio studied social communication and journalism at the Universidad Externado in Colombia and multimedia creation at the University of Los Andes, and he is a candidate of the Master in Audiovisual Screenwriting at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR).
Mauricio is the recipient of the 2017 Cine Qua Non Lab-Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM) Prize, awarded by Cine Qua Non Lab in collaboration with BAM, the FDC and Proimágenes Colombia, for his project La diva.
