2025 Residencia Cine Qua Non
Raúl Sebastián Quintanilla is a screenwriter and film director originally from Mexico City. He wrote and directed the feature film Mudanza, which premiered at the 2025 Cinequest film festival. He co-wrote Blanco de verano, a film that was part of the official selection of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was awarded best screenplay at the Málaga Film Festival and the Lima Film Festival in 2020. Raúl Sebastián has been twice a recipient of the screenwriting grant awarded by the Young Creators Program of the Mexican Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). He graduated summa cum laude in Directing from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) film school in Mexico City. He directed the short films La habitación (2012) and Otras personas (2017), which screened at more than 30 international festivals and received multiple awards, including best director at the Shorts Mexico Festival and best script at the Kinoki Festival in 2012. He is currently a member of Mexico’s National System of Art Creators.
Raúl Sebastián was a participant in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2024 Taller de Líneas Argumentales lab with Proyecto Saori.
Proyecto Saori — Alberto, a photographer disenchanted with his career, creates an alter ego to escape a creative crisis. The success of the project is so overwhelming that Alberto seems to change his identity. Not before long, he becomes jealous of his “other self”, his personal relationships break down, and he begins to question who he really is.
