Agnes Skonare Karlsson (Sweden)

Agnes Skonare Karlsson is a Swedish writer/director born in Stockholm and currently based in Los Angeles. She holds an M.F.A. in Film Directing/Screenwriting from Columbia University in New York City, where she graduated with honors. Agnes’ work is rooted in character-driven stories that live in the world of social realism, often focused on characters trapped in claustrophobic situations or relationships. Her latest short film, Berry Pickers (2022), premiered at the Gothenburg Film Festival and is a proof of concept for her feature script with the same title. The script recently won the Grand Prize of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition. The short film was a Jury Honors at the Columbia University Film Festival, is in competition at Palm Springs ShortFest, Brooklyn Film Festival and Odense International Film Festival, as well as an official selection at Edinburgh International Film Fest, and recently won Best Cinematography at Sweden’s Short Film Festival. Agnes just won the Adrienne Shelly Award for Best Female Director for Berry Pickers and is currently developing her next short film and first feature film.
