Alessandro Pugno is an Italian filmmaker, photographer and poet whose work is closely linked to the Ibero-American world. He was born in Casale Monferrato and currently lives between Spain and Italy. He graduated in aesthetics and theoretical philosophy from the Universities of Turin and Bologna with a thesis on Heidegger and the pre-Socratics. His works, short films and experimental documentaries have screened at major international film festivals, winning several awards. After a significant run at film festivals around the world, his debut narrative feature film, Human | Animal (2023), was released in theaters in Italy and Spain. Alessandro has published two poetry books —Fili d’oro tra le ortiche (2006) and Peregrino d’amore (2023)— which won several awards in Italy. His latest photo series was selected for PhotoEspaña and was a finalist for the Arte Laguna Awards 2024 and the New Talent Award 2025. His work focuses on topics such as time, death and human identity.
Bajo la marea [co-written with Zelia Zbogar] — Giorgio and Silvia await the arrival of bioluminescence on an idyllic beach on the Mexican Pacific coast, where the landscape is constantly changing and testing their certainties. The wait soon turns into a struggle for their survival and that of their love.
