Cine Qua Non Retreat 2026

Alisha Bhowmik is a multi-racial (Bengali Indian, Cherokee Nation) filmmaker from Arkansas based in Brooklyn, New York. She’s a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She produced the feature film Blow Up My Life, which won the Best Film Award at Harlem International Film Festival in 2023 and had a limited AMC theatrical run in 2023. She has produced short films and music videos that have been awarded a Vimeo Staff Pick, NoBudge Best of the Year 2022 and have been featured in Huffington Post, Refinery29, NYLON and PAPER magazine. Her short documentary Dot & a Feather was the first Sundance Collab Challenge winner. Recently, she was a finalist of the 2025 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles pitch competition for her feature film A Place In Between.
Alisha was a participant in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2024 Storylines Lab with Untitled Calcutta Film (now A Place In Between).
A Place In Between — After her father suddenly dies, 27-year-old Sonia (mixed-race Indian-American) must travel to India for the first time to settle his affairs including inheriting the family home in Kolkata. Not knowing the language or culture, she’s guided by unlikely friendships that open her up to new possibilities.
