Cynthia Fernández Trejo (México)

Cynthia Fernández Trejo is a playwright, screenwriter and film director originally from Mexico City. She holds a degree in French Literature from Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM) and the Sorbonne in Paris and she is a graduate from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico City. She has worked as a screenwriter on projects for various production companies, such as Corazón Films, Campanario, Alazraki Films and Perro Azul, and has been part of the writing team for series for platforms such as Netflix and Amazon. She was a two-time recipient of the Scholarship for Young Creators of the Mexican Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) in screenwriting (2015 and 2018), and she was also a grantee of the Foundation for Mexican Letters (2019-2021). Cynthia is the author of the book Wunderkammer (2018), as well as the director and screenwriter of the short film Piedra de caballo, selected for various international film festivals, and the animated feature film El lenguaje de los pájaros.

In this process, she will go through the stages of an impossible mourning in which everything begins to turn dark inside the family home, as if a curse had been unleashed, under the sinister presence of the father’s ghost that haunts and threatens her while she struggles to save her family and to regain the desire to write.
