Dan Chávez (Mexico)

Dan Chávez is a Mexican film director and screenwriter originally from Guadalajara. He debuted in 2022 with his debut feature, Ceremonia, produced with support from Mexico’s Fiscal Stimulus for Investment Projects in National Film Production and Distribution (EFICINE) and the Filma in Jalisco trust fund. The script participated in several co-production meetings and was part of Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2021 Taller de Líneas Argumentales. Ceremonia is currently in post-production. Dan also directed the documentary María, la diva eterna, written by Marina Stavenhagen and produced by Animal de Luz and N+Docs for the streaming platform ViX+. In 2017 his short film El grifo (2016), produced by the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in London and achieved a significant run at film festivals around the world. He is currently working on a new documentary project as a director with screenwriter Claudia Garibaldi and, at the same time, developing the idea of his next script — Narcissus. Dan holds an M.F.A. in Film Directing from the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC) in Barcelona and a B.A. in Audiovisual Arts from the University of Guadalajara. 

Narcissus — Dylan is forced to work for a criminal organization when his job opportunities are replaced by Narcissus, an artificial intelligence software.
