Domenico Modafferi (Italy)

Domenico Modafferi is an Italian filmmaker originally from Reggio Calabria. He graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Messina and earned a diploma in classical violin at the “A. Casella” Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila. Passionate about cinema since he was 14 years old, Domenico started making short films with his schoolmates until, in 2012, he turned his passion into a profession and began working as an assistant director. After moving to Rome, he made several short films as a screenwriter and director, including Margie (2014, Rai Cinema Channel Award), Il miracolo (collective direction, 2015, special mention at Corti d’Argento) and Lo Schiacciapensieri (2019, I LOVE GAI—Giovani Autori Italiani Competition, El Gouna Film Festival). In 2021, he directed an episode of the docu-fiction Donne di Calabria (Rai Storia) and made his animation debut with the short film When You Wish Upon A Star (best animated short film at Corto Lovere 2022, official competition at the New Orleans Film Festival).
