Giuliana Monteiro (Brazil)

Giuliana Monteiro is a writer and director originally from São Paulo. She completed her M.F.A. in Filmmaking at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BAFTA scholarship and a AAUW international fellowship. Her short film I Don’t Say Goodbye, I Say See You Soon premiered at the 2014 Berlinale and was selected in more than 30 international film festivals, winning best short film at the Viña del Mar Film Festival and best screenplay at the First Run Film Festival in New York City. Giuliana has also taught screenwriting at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS) in São Paulo. She is currently working on her feature film Estrada para Livramento, a project that was selected to participate in the 2015 Buenos Aires Talent Campus, the 2016 Co-Production Forum at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, the 2018 Torino TIFF Filmmaker Lab and the 2018 Toronto International Film Lab. The project also won the Spike Lee development grant and the SFFILM Rainin screenwriting grant.

Estrada para Livramento (Road to Livramento) — Two estranged brothers are forced together when their family home is destroyed by corporate greed. The stringent rules for financial compensation require them to embark on a long journey through Southeast Brazil in search of their younger brother.
