Iria Gómez Concheiro

Iria Gómez Concheiro is a director, screenwriter, and producer originally from Mexico City, a graduate of the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). After completing her studies, she founded the production company Ciudad Cinema, with which she has produced various film projects in Mexico, Colombia, and Italy. Her short film Dime lo que sientes (2004) received more than twenty national and international awards and recognitions, including the Ariel Award for Best Fiction Short Film from the Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences and an honorable mention at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

Since 2004, Iria has served as a jury member for various film festivals and funds, as well as a teacher and cultural promoter at various educational and cultural institutions. From 2017 to 2019, she was the academic director of the Escuela Superior de Cine (ESCINE) in Mexico City. She is currently the founding director of the educational project Altos Estudios Cinematográficos and the film review magazine Pulsar at ESCINE.

In 2008, she premiered her feature-length documentary La changa at the Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival (FICCO), where it received a special mention. Her first feature film, The Cinema Hold Up (Asalto al cine) (2011), had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, participated in more than thirty international festivals, including the San Sebastián Film Festival, and won the award for best first feature at the Guadalajara Film Festival. Her third film, Before Oblivion (Antes del olvido) (2018), a Mexican-Colombian co-production, premiered at the Morelia Film Festival and won the award for best Mexican film at the Guanajuato Film Festival. Her most recent film, Aquí hay dragones, starring Alfredo Castro, is a production of Ciudad Cinema and Machete that is currently in post-production and will have its world premiere in February 2026.
