José Fernández del Río (Peru)

José Fernández del Río is a Peruvian director and screenwriter. He holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru and a Diploma in Creative Documentary from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia. He participated in the Ibermedia Project Development Course in 2015 and 2019, and in the Talents Buenos Aires in 2013. José is the director and screenwriter of the feature film Viaje, winner of the Ibermedia project development fund and winner in 2019 in the “FICViña Construye” section of the Viña del Mar Film Festival and the “Cine del Mañana WIP” section of the Lima Film Festival. He was the winner in 2015 of the Experimental Works Award of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture for Hecho en Perú and is the founder and director of the Cineclub Pueblo Libre, a film exhibition space in Lima. He was also the screenwriter and creator of the musical series Sonido Bestial, broadcast on the Ipe channel of Peruvian national television, and his poetry has been published in the anthology Papel para aviones of the Peruvian Academy of Language. His feature film project Micaela won the development grant of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture in 2019.

Micaela On Christmas Day in Chumbivilcas, in the middle of the Peruvian Andes, men fistfight to settle their differences during the Takanakuy festival. After learning that her sister was raped during the festival by the respected fighter Don Santiago, and faced with the complicity of the town and the police, Micaela decides to train and, disguised as a man, fights against the abuser seeking justice.
