Leyzer Chiquin (Guatemala)

Leyzer Chiquin is a Mayan director and producer from Guatemala. He is the director and co-founder of the production company Cuenca Studios. His most notable projects are La niña del arpa (2017), which received a jury special mention at the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (VLAFF) and was an official selection at various international festivals; La sombra de la casa (2022), an official selection at the 2023 Toulouse Latin American Film Festival; Colores de las venas (2022), a documentary feature film currently in post-production; and El buceo de las ranas (2022), a Guatemala/Colombia co-production that won the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) Stimulus for Audiovisual Creation in Mexico and Central America for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Communities (ECAMC), a consultancy from Ambulante Mexico and the fiscal sponsorship of the Redford Center in the United States. Leyzer’s work at Cuenca Studios also focuses on shooting documentary material for human rights organizations in Guatemala, Belize and Central America.
