Marcelo Filho (Brazil)

Marcelo Filho is a Brazilian director, screenwriter and editor from the Bahia sertão. He studied Film Directing at the Fundación Universidad del Cine (FUC) in Buenos Aires, where he made several narrative short films, such as Frente frío (2014), which participated in the Short Film Corner of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, and Años (2016), selected by FUC for international distribution in 2017. Marcelo is a founding member of the “Bora?” project, a collective, multidisciplinary initiative which aims at documenting and promoting the culture of his native region and of Tucano, his hometown. He is currently working on the development of his first feature film, El niño, selected as part of Projeto Paradiso’s program “Bolsas Paradiso: Talentos do Audiovisual” for Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2020 Script Revision Lab in Spanish.

El niño — A young immigrant away from home discovers an unusual way to save himself from complete failure: he learns to multiply money by using currency exchange. But maintaining the image of a successful son without revealing his secret will lead him to a web of lies in which he will end up trapped.
