2025 Script Revision Lab

Mauricio Osaki is a Brazilian-Japanese (sansei 三世) filmmaker known for his emotionally grounded storytelling and cross-cultural perspective. He earned his M.F.A. in Filmmaking from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he directed the award-winning short film My Father’s Truck, which premiered at the Berlinale in 2013, screened at over 100 international festivals, and was shortlisted for the Academy Awards—Oscars®. His screenplays have been selected for prestigious development labs such as Berlinale Talents, Biennale College–Venice, Le Groupe Ouest, Talents Tokyo, and Autumn Meetings, among others. In 2024, Mauricio was commissioned by Kodansha, Japan’s leading publishing house, to direct A Dream for My Daughter, which premiered at the Tokyo Short Shorts Film Festival (SSFF). He is currently based in Vietnam, where he is in post-production on his debut feature film — an expansion of My Father’s Truck. Alongside his narrative work, Mauricio directs commercials and web series for United States-based streaming platforms such as ShortMax, Vigloo, and Domireel. He also serves as visiting faculty at Fulbright University Vietnam.
Rui Dekasegi — After his first arrest, an underaged Japanese-Brazilian boy is sent to Japan to stay away from criminality. While searching for his estranged father, whom he wants to reconnect with, he catches the attention of the Japanese mafia due to his fighting skills. As he rises in the Yakuza ranks, he gains enemies, including his own father.
