Orlando Javier Torres (Puerto Rico)

Orlando Javier Torres is a Puerto Rican director, editor and screenwriter with over a decade of experience. A graduate of the M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University in New York, his short films have been screened and awarded in places such as Israel, Croatia, England and Spain. These include The Least Worst Man, acquired and distributed by HBO in 2018. In 2020, his project Música para plantas was selected for the Cortadito International Film Festival of the Alliance Française in Puerto Rico, although it was not filmed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. His most recent short film, The Department of All Things Lost and Found, screened at the New York Short Film Festival and is making its festival run. Orlando Javier is currently developing his first feature film, Un lugar de agua, writing a romantic comedy with Yinuo Wang titled But Also, Birds, and finishing a book of short stories to be published in 2024.

Un lugar de aguaPuerto Rico, 1996. Santiago, a young factory employee in a coastal town, decides to commit a robbery to prove his worth to Catia, his younger and more privileged girlfriend. But the crime gets out of control and Santiago disappears without a trace. Twelve years later, in a country in ruins, a castaway with no memory of his life shows up in town and unearths the memories of that fateful night for Catia and everyone involved.
