Rafael Macazaga (Mexico)

Rafael Macazaga is a screenwriter, director and producer from Mexico City. He holds a B.A. in Communication from the Universidad Veracruzana and is a graduate of the Mantarraya Producciones Film Workshop. He has directed commercials for brands such as Hershey’s, Star Wars and Duolingo. For nine years he was the coordinator of the festival “Hazlo en Cortometraje” for BBVA and Cinépolis. His science fiction short film Golem has garnered awards and notable selections at festivals around the world, including the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF), Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre (BARS), Boston Science Fiction Film Festival and Feratum Film Fest. Rafael is currently developing two feature films and a television series with his production company, Antígona Films. His projects, which are being developed in partnership with Latido Films, highlight contemporary social challenges in Mexico through genre productions that take advantage of horror, fantasy and science fiction.

Tierra ácida [co-written with José Manuel Mijares] Eréndira, a 60-year-old widow, must defend her land from the cows of a foreign neighbor whose acidic feces consume everything in their path. The dispute leads Eréndira to challenge the conventions of land and freedom in a quiet town.
