Rafael Macazaga is a Mexican filmmaker who has directed commercials for brands such as Hershey’s, Star Wars and Duolingo. His science fiction short film Golem, where a clumsy robot learns to act, has won awards at festivals such as the Phoenix Film Festival, the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, and the FERATUM International Fantastic Film Festival. He is currently developing his first feature film.
Rafael was a participant in Cine Qua Non Lab’s 2024 Taller de Líneas Argumentales lab with Tierra ácida.
José Manuel Mijares has worked in various areas of filmmaking, including screenwriting, casting, production, and talent management with directors such as Julio Medem. He is currently producing projects for brands such as Mercado Libre, OPPO and Duolingo, and is developing two social and fantasy feature films with his production company, Antígona Films. He is a co-writer and producer of the short film Sole, winner of the Mexico International Short Film Festival (Shorts México) and the Monterrey International Film Festival.
Tierra ácida [co-written by Rafael Macazaga and José Manuel Mijares] — Eréndira must defend her land from the cows of a foreign neighbor whose acidic feces consume everything in their path. The dispute leads Eréndira to question her attachment to the land, the people, and nature.
