Sandra Delgado is a filmmaker, screenwriter and visual artist. Born and raised in Brazil, she lives between Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles. She holds a degree in Journalism and an M.F.A. in Photography and Social Sciences, she attended an artistic residency at FLORA Ars&Natura in Bogotá, and she studied screenwriting at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As a photographer and editor for Coletivo Viva Favela, she received an award from the Open Society Foundation for her documentary photography in defense of human rights. In 2018, her installation Objetos da Memória opened the FotoRio Resiste festival. Sandra studied documentary filmmaking with Eduardo Coutinho and João Moreira Salles. In 2015, she created and directed the documentary series Terceiro Sinal (Canal GNT), about the creative process of four Brazilian theater directors. Sandra is the screenwriter for the historical drama series Maria e o Cangaço, released on Disney+ in 2025. She is currently developing the documentary Existi, about Brazilian artist Marilena Ansaldi. La extranjera is her directorial debut and her first original script.
