Luis Kies (Mexico)

Luis Kies graduated in Film Directing from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico City. His work stems from a search for stories from his region, with a decentralized and non-hegemonic perspective that challenges Eurocentrism and dignifies the identities of southern Mexico. His narratives explore the social and cultural realities of his birthplace, Yucatán, through an authorial approach that combines research, observation, and close collaboration with the communities he portrays. He was the recipient of a grant from the Program for the Encouragement of Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA) Yucatán 2023 for his feature film script Poch Vaquero, a project that was also part of the Project Development Lab for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Filmmakers at the Morelia International Film Festival in 2025. Luis has experience in directing, screenwriting, editing, and film development processes in both fiction and documentary. He is currently in the editing stage of his debut documentary feature, El sinaloense, a project selected for the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund at the 2025 edition of the Los Cabos International Film Festival.
